Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology is a small scientific institute dedicated to basic and applied research of ecology and environmental problems in the Baltic Sea. Most of our work focuses on the Gulf of Riga and the Latvian part of the Baltic Proper, where we are also responsible for marine environmental monitoring.

Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (LHEI) was actively involved in preparation process providing ideas, text and commentsfor partners leading writing of Work Packages 2,3, and 5 as well as assisted in writing of Work Packages 1 and 4. LHEI will be actively involved in the implementation of all work packages. In Work Package 1 LHEI as associated beneficiary will support the Lead Partner in project management as well as will manage all national activities. In Work Package 2 LHEI will be responsible for analysis of gaps and needs in capacity building.

In Work Package 3 LHEI will be responsible for the tasks related to non-indigenous species, including small scale pilot study and will support other partners working on different descriptors. Also in Work Package 4 LHEI will be involved in all activities with an emphasis on the Ferrybox system. In Work Package 5 direct involvement will be minimal since most of foreseen activities will be subcontracted as external service. LHEI will still define tasks and deliverables and maintain control over the implementation of the work package.
